NO NO NO... this is NOT about Claudie's recipes.
I don't have any.
It's about my Valentine gift to Randy this year. A day to hang out with 7 top French chefs from the Québec region. They were competing for a Micheline Star. No not a tire, a rating that is very "upetyup" in the cooking world.
It started at 11:00 AM, yeah I made it, and ended with a 5 course meal at the local community centre in our little village of Plantagenet. Who knew we had such a thing going on around here... not me.
My cousin Nicole found it.
Randy and Kenny were very happy to be able to watch the creations come to life, taste test and drink wine at the same time. That's tough you know. Nicole and I were just happy to get out and drink wine, lol. Kenny is the chef at their house, and Randy is the chef around here when the mood hits.

The competition was held at "LA BINERIE".
It's not a fancy place. It's where they make... you
got it, FRENCH BEANS.
Yes, the one's that make you fart.
But they are FRENCH farts, so they
don't smell, lol.
Details, details, details, holy macaroni.

Cute waitresses delivered the food to the competition table.
One dish was for us to eat.
They were judged on cleanliness in the kitchen, presentation, and of course taste and texture.
EVERYTHING was in FRENCH, so Kenny and Randy didn't understand a thing.
Nicole and I were translating all day and night.
This was my dish. Well, not this one...
this was the sample.
But we did get to eat all the samples.
I'm not sure what people find fascinating about food really.
But that's just me. I don't cook remember?
This won "BEST DESSERT". Phyllo with apple and soft Québec cheese with pistachios.

It was OK.
This looks PRETTY, but didn't taste that great.
The brownie things were tasteless.
I liked the creativity. Looks like a crown.

Randy scooped me a couple more at dinner.
So delicious. I could have eaten just the
MACARONS.
This dessert was lovely.
She had dried ice in that little glass cup.
The little tree trunk was maple sugar... yummy
This was an interesting dessert.
Wasabi with bacon and sorbet on the side.
Not sure what the other ingredients were...
but it was sweet.

They were all so particular about the presentation. OMG.

This was mine... it didn't win, but it was good.

The chef also had a smear of sweet squash that totally complemented the chicken.

Nice guy, and HE spoke ENGLISH.

The winning chef is off to the Canadian finales. If he wins, he's off to Germany for the international competition.

What a sweet gift to give your hubby for Valentine's Day. Looks like you had a great time even if you're not much into food.

I've never had the macarons, and I've always wanted to try them. This post was delightful to me because my son likes to cook. In fact, he wanted to get into culinary arts earlier but changed plans. We watch Paul Deen sometimes hehe. The vintage picture was the best - loved it!

You have such a way dear heart to present moments. MOMENTS that otherwise would be forgotten or not documented, but sweet times of family and friends, and everyday comings and goings. I don't like to cook either, but I definitely LOVE to eat. A little too much according to my scale, lol!
This looked like such an interesting event. I'm sure it was a nice change from the routine dishes most of us seem to tend to prepare on a rotating basis.
These chefs are so creative, both in their cooking and in their presentation. Too bad their creations take so long to plan and prepare and then disappear in the blink of an eye!

I can imagine Randy loving this. The food displays are very creative. I guess if that's ALL you eat, you could loose a lot of weight eh. Not enough food there to feed a french fly.

My husband could not "boil water" when we married thirteen years ago, but health issues with me has cast him in the role of cook often
in the last few years, and I smile to myself, as I can see him start-
ing to get creative in the kitchen, too! Bless his heart (now you KNOW I am from the south!) I wonder how he would like a cooking class?! With the "felies jolie" as waitresses, he may enjoy it to no end!!

This is the most fun post and I loved it soooo much. Randy must have been beaming the whole time. I vaguely remember you saying you were off to a 7 course French dinner. Was this it?
The beauty of it all is stunning. So inventive and I hope mostly delicious. How does one make a bad brownie? That is beyond me. I trust your judgement though Claudie.
I am still going back to look at the photos again. How long did this presentation last? I would have loved being there.

Tomorrow we leave to visit my brother overnight. I won't take my computer. Sharon would be insulted. My SIL is a bit put off by the five sisters so I will give her my undivided attention. Smile. I can't wait to see my darling brother. He is a kind loving man who loves his wife. So I am very careful when I am with her...not to kid or anything. She has no sense of humor. Sigh! No HA's for the next two days.
This is beginning to look like a chapter in a book.

Yes dearest heart, I love to play with my gal pals too, but in the end, it is HIM who I love to cuddle up with, come home to, and play with on the weekends. We are crazy; we get ourselves into all sorts of projects and ideas, and I think this is one of the reasons why time has passed by so quickly. We never have enough time to get every thing done that we dream of doing!!!!!

I can't imagine how delicious all that was...and the Creme Brulee??? Oh my goodness, that sounds scrumptious. There's a little cafe near the Gone with the Wind Museum called "SUGAR CAKES". It's divine and they have on their menu "Creme Brulee French Toast". My friend got it - I will try it the next time. This time I tried the French Crepe filled with some yummy's for the tummy. We had a great time.
I "MISS" you my lovely friend. We must schedule a SKYPE call so I can both SEE you and TALK with you...and more importantly GIGGLE & LAUGH with you! xoxo

Randy must have loved this gift. However, I must say, NONE of that food looked anywhere near as yummy as what Randy really cooks at home. How could you beat what he did for us? I will never forget it...even the 'firehouse' beef was wonderful! Really, I think about his eggs benny, bread, eggplant...all of it, all the time!
We just got back in town yesteday evening from visiting Leah and the boys in Virginia. Now getting ready to head to California for two weeks.

OMG, Claudie....that was a fabulous post!! I love your "take" on cooking and food!! I am also not into cooking....I do it "to live" as you say and because I don't have a resident chef like you do!! :)
Besides the French Farts reference (I'll be thinking about that all day!! ) I so enjoyed the desserts!! Now, desserts are something I do love....especially creme brulee and macaroons! So, I would have been on cloud 9 for that part of the day!! I was, however, very intrigued by how hard those chefs work to present their food. They are artists for sure!
So, how come your cousin doesn't speak French, if you do? Did you grow up with it being spoken at home? I think that's awesome that you do!!!
Gotta head out for a wee little jog. I don't want to but I'm determined to get back to the 5K level....and I have a way to go. Our exercise teacher (at our gym) quit and I feel totally sluggish!!!! Gotta find another teacher to "push" my fat butt to work hard. Otherwise, I tend to not do it!! :) She's also a runner, so it was fun to "talk" that with her. :(
