We've been in the bedroom all day...

Constructing a bed that is.

IKEA's been around my neck of the woods (Ontario, Canada) for a VERY long time.
I've never been a fan of their goods.
It's ok if you don't move more than once, but Randy and I have moved 13 times since we met, and that stuff just DOES NOT hold up.
But now that we are settled in the cottage going on 5 yrs., I thought I would go ahead and buy a platform bed with drawers for more storage, and do away with those damn dust bunnies under my bed.
The mess begins. See, I'm not all organized. Dying to paint those side tables.
I was suppose to do it this summer, but summer got away.
Looks like I'm a hoarder with a dog in the middle.
Colt starting the project. He's such a great kid. Notice the PINK bowl holding the nuts and bolts?
I had to walk away from this scene.
Makes my heart palpitate big time.
The WORST part of all of this is having a WATER BED. Not the old slushy type, the new fancy one inside a mattress. Great for my back.
Unpacking everything with Audrey supervising. She's on the window sill.
Progress after 3 hrs. Poor Colt.
Did I mention how GREAT he is?
So check THIS out. MADE IN ITALY!
I thought they were Swedish?
Click on it. It says MADE IN ITALY. They don't make junk in ITALY, do THEY?
Actually Colt, you are part Swedish.
Your grandfather on daddy's side was full blown Swedish. I'm FRENCH don't forget it.
YES, Randy sleeps in this bedroom with a PINK dresser drawer and PINK walls.
In addition to buying the BED, we had to send Colt to the local hardware store to get two thick pieces of plywood ($100.00) as additional support for the water mattress. Yeah... so now we're up to $450.00.
We're 1/2 way there.
There we go. Toby approves. Nearly done, kind of.
Now it's time to have a conference. It's been 4 1/2 hrs. Time to make the drawers.
OMG is it over yet???
Here's the worst part. Open the window in the bathroom, put the hose out and connect to the freezing pipes outside. It's now -12 and Colt is freezing. Pump Randy pump. No, too much, no too little. Oh just get it done PLEASE. I want to jump in. THE BEST PART... I now have 4 BIG DRAWERS to put stuff in.
Complete. Perfect. Love it. Comfy. More room.
That bench holds 3 dogs, but the best part...
AND THE BIG BONUS... OPEN THE DRAWERS AND PUT THE DOGS IN. Tuh duh!!!
Get up, close the drawers (after letting the dogs out first of course).
HOW COOL IS THAT IKEA??? You should advertise built-in DOG BEDS.
And after all their hard work (now 5 1/2 hours),
I spent the next 2 minutes feeding my special men a gourmet feast ;-)
I know, easy peasy and oh so domesticated.
I'm like that.

Oh my gosh Claudie, This post is a hoot. Great photos!!! I loved reading every word of your humorous text. A great 'how to' and IKEA should see this. Now you have to do a post on how comfortable it is. Love the dog beds!!!

Your treat was very impressive. NOT!!! HA! A couple of good steaks sound a whole lot more nourishing after all of that effort. But the thought was 'very sweet' and probably shocked Randy. You know I am teasing you. You do cook spaghetti sauce and my chicken recipe. BIG SMILE HERE. You know I love you dearly and I know Randy loves to cook for you. Good thing huh? I would cook for you too my darling friend.

We bowled today and really froze out there today. High was 23 degrees and windy. Brrrr. 12 degrees tonight.

I am going to bed now because it is midnight. I am determined to get more sleep at night. Not enough sleep causes wrinkles, so I was told. Horrors!!!
I love you to pieces,
Jeanne xoxoxo.

Claudie,
How cool is that bed? I've never seen so many drawers on a bed before. I bet your dogs love it! Your men sure worked hard on this. I noticed Audrey on the wall. Do you know I've never seen Breakfast At Tiffany's? Nel bought me a new DVD player and the movie. It is such a charming one. I'm so glad to have met you this year. You are such a spirited, creative, wonderful woman! Oh, and thanks for the suggestion on Miss Skinny Snowman. Isn't she cute? I look forward to more of your dazzling posts in the new year.

Oh my..... how I could use a whole bunch of drawers under my bed!... but, I must say, the best part is surely the built in dog beds. How darn clever is that? I'll bet they just sit there, waiting for you to open them for them. :-)

Congrats! Way to go Ikea!

You are a hoot and a half my dear. THAT WAS FABULOUS and funny! "TUH DUH"......teeeheee.....

Isn't it wonderful to have men around? I would NOT even be INTERESTED in trying to put something like that together. I have the ideas, I go buy it, and the MISTA puts it together. Sounds good to me! LOOKS GREAT and the dogs are HAPPY!!!

Oh dearest, did you STILL NOT GET my little package?

You know how to get a girls attention with that headline "We spent all day in the bedroom" - you KNOW I could NOT wait to read all about it.

I know how you feel about Ikea, however my big, long, wooden dining room table that can seat 12 - 14 but it's a little too cozy I bought at IKEA and I really love it. Loved the price, too.

Aren't we just so thankful for the men in our lives who willingly do these projects for us?!?

How is your sleep on that comfy new bed?!? Years ago we had a water bed.... not inside a mattress, and comfy but wavy... swoosh... lots of swish....

Oh my Claudie, I couldn't wait to read this when I saw the title! lol
What a great bed, and hope it is good for your back. I have a bad back too. A herniated disk in my lower lumbar. What a cute doggie bed too!! I also have a pink bedroom, and hubby doesn't have a problem with it either. Isn't it great we have our men to do these great things for us?

Love,
Debbie xo

Your son is a sweetie. That is way too complicated for us! I love the doggie drawer bed. I'm going to go look at my bed and see if I could fit a sliding drawer under there. I would actually have more than a sliver of bed to sleep on!!
Happy New Year sweet Claudie!

That is a cool story, Claudie.
Love your post about the new bed.
I think we don´t have those beds at Ikea Germany. Never seen with the drawer and for waterbed. I always thought is it the same here like everywhere in the world.

We bought last week a new chair and a bench for the legs. Guess who is lying on the bench...no not my legs...you can see it in my Tuesday post.
Great idea to fill the drawer with doggies ☺

♥hugs

Been in the bedroom all day eh. I was looking for something a little more....well....amour-ish. (tee, hee)
ONLY YOU would think to use those drawers for doggie beds. I think in my next life (If I believed in reincarnation, which I don't, but just saying) I WANT TO COME BACK AS ONE OF YOUR PETS.

Good ol' Colt and Randy putting that together. And, I am soooo impressed with the exquisite meal you prepared for them (tee, hee)

It was fun seeing little glimpses of your bedroom again. I miss your little cottage, Randy's great meals, Colt's great service...the sista's. Yup

I have never bought anything from Ikea either. There stuff is too contemporary for me. But, I may be going there soon to look at their baskets. I have an idea for the kitchen that I want to do.

Well, sleep tight my friend. I didn't know you had a water bed. (not that we ever really discussed YOUR BED) My bed at my place is so comfy cozy, that I leaving it.

We are having BETTER weather then you. It is just like spring. High 40's....but holy crap, THE WINDS today heading down to Southern Alberta were atrocious. Sleeping at my sisters house. (they are in the states) and checking up/helping out/visiting my folks.

anyway, I seem to ramble. LOVE YOU !!

Mmmm, comfy new bed to start the new year! Mike and I have yet to put furniture together as a couple. I am sure if we ever do it will be a "Can This Marriage Be Saved?" episode, as he has no patience and I call him on it--"Don't be so HUFFY!"--which makes it worse, ad nauseum. :) How great that your family pitched in to do this for you. :)

So.....after all of that.....do you love your new bed? I've never been a fan of water beds...but I know they have really improved them over the years. The first one I slept on, I was freezing all night and felt like I was on a raft in the middle of the ocean. Could the owners have set it up wrong and forgot to heat it? :) I love the idea of all of your storage drawers aka dog beds! :)

You did a great job documenting the progress in your bedroom :) It turned out great.

Hope you're having a great year thus far!!!

Hi Claudie, I decided to come over and find out if you put a footnote on your post about the bed. Are you happy with how it all turned out? I know you said it was cozy but are the pups sleeping in the drawers? HA! A good bed is so important. I hope you both are getting a better rest now. It looks wonderful.

I'm heading to bed now. I'm still keeping my promise to myself to get more rest. Our bed is really comfortable and we love the comfort it gives.

More news on the morrow. I love you to pieces. Goodnight.

Lovely bed and smart idea with the drawers being used as dog beds. Just be careful not to step into it when you get out of bed..lol! Hey, if there is money to be made- Italians will make cheap beds :)

Ciao!
